It is no secret that Southwold needs a new Sports Pavillion. There has been a mountain of work going on behind the scenes and without wanting to tempt Fate there could be an exciting development in the next few weeks. Watch this space for news. The annual Southwold Beach 7s Tournament ( the biggest in the country) was again a huge success on and off the field. The Southwold men lost in a tight semi-final, and the Ladies made the quarter finals. Teams from near and far competed with a smile on their face on the pitch and in the marquee afterwards! The 1st team squad, kindly sponsored by Nicholsons Construction, and promising 2nd team players have been in training throughout July and August. Warm up games against the likes of Woodbridge, Coventry Saracens and a North Walsham development XV should lead the club to hitting the ground running. A strong 2nd team is a prerequisite for a healthy club; last season the 2nd XV honoured and won most of their fixtures and judging by numbers at training Willy Larter's army should have another cracking season. The Ladies have shown their strength in depth by entering two squads in the Southwold beach 7s. These numbers, skill and commitment and the support of Prestige Nursing should bear them in good stead on their travels in their league. The Sharks produced competitive and skilful performances. Many U17s are now challenging in the senior teams and bring a fresh and keen aspect to pre-season training. The U15s enjoyed their tour to Holland immensely, playing an exciting brand of rugby and making friends along the way. It must be a sign of age but yet again it is fantastic to see the junior section of the club flying all over the pitches on a Sunday morning - their not called the Seagulls for nothing! Among many talking points and successes was the Under 9s victory at the Ipswich Festival and coming close at Norwich. The junior section of Southwold RFC is thriving which means a vibrant and healthy club at present and for the future.
