Date: 6th January 2008 Venue: St George's School, Southwold The weather was cold and bright, with the sun a little too low in the sky if you were facing the wrong way. The pitch was in superb condition, soft but not muddy. Woodbridge kicked and we were immediately on the attack with a good run from Gavin, who was stopped just short of the try line, he passed the ball back and it was fed out to the left were a try was awarded to Southwold (the team informed me later that Edmund was the scorer), Will Everson was unable to convert. Woodbridge were soon on the counter attack and scored a try which they did convert. Southwold soon replied with another try, this time by Joe, Ed Everson was unable to convert. Then Woodbridge scored several more times, we were trailing their lead. In the second half we were playing into the sun. I noticed consistent chasing and tackling from Alfie. Anthony excelled himself, this was noticed by Jason and myself, one time he got the ball out of the maul and made a spirited run forward, throwing off several tackles before he was brought down and suffered a blow to the head which caused him to be subbed off in order to recover. I also noticed some committed tackling from Sam Button. Southwold seemed to pull their socks up toward the end and Bill scored, Will Everson was unable to convert. The final score was Southwold 15 and Woodbridge 31 |
