Southwold Sharks (under 13s) versus Stowmarket
Sunday 25th November 2007 at St Felix School Southwold
We arrived at 1000hrs at the most westerly of the school's three pitches. The cloud was high and thin, the sun shone through one of the few blue patches of sky, you could not feel any heat from the sun as there was a persistent northerly breeze which continued throughout the whole game. Stowmarket turned up just before 1100hrs, their shirts were blue and white hoops with a red margins and red socks. The pitch was in excellent condition.

Mr Oliver Everett officiated.
Kick off 1105hrs
The Sharks were
Ollie Goodrich, Gabriel Hill, Joe Gaffney, Anthony Bohncke, Toby Everett, Callum Rollo, James Heal, Edmund Lock, Adam Sutton, Tom Heal, Bill Bournes, Ed Everson, Will Everson, Gavin Keable annd Will Dunning

They were coached by Jason Lock and Sam Watson and supported by Parents and friends.

Stowmarket elected to kick north which was caught cleanly by Adam. There were a number of scrums and it appeared to the author that the Referee had to coach one of Stowmarket's props in order to produce a decent scrum. We won a proportion of the scrums with Gabriel as Hooker, Tom and Edmund could be seen taking charge of the loose ball and passing it down the line. Southwold gave away a number of penalties; the ref was strict which is how it should be. Toby, Callum, Anthony, and James made their mark with effective mauling and rucking.

Early on Joe got the ball and made a dash for the line, the first try had been scored, Adam took the kick and got the ball cleanly over the bar and between the posts but the ref was not happy, the ball was retrieved from the undergrowth and Adam took it again, unfortunately it fell short.

Play resumed, both teams played with spirit, there was quite a lot of hugging tackles where the player with the ball bravely struggled forward with one, two and sometimes three of the opposition hanging onto them, this applied to both teams. We had struggled to get the ball down the line but the first time we managed it Gavin flew down the right wing leaving the opposition in his wake, Adam converted this one.

Our next try involved Ollie charging for the try line, he was stopped, Joe took up the attack and crossed the line but the ball was knocked from his grasp and was on the ground when Adam touched it down, Adam converted this one with the ball ricocheting off the left upright. The first half had seen the majority of play in the Stowmarket half, however they bravely counterattacked towards the end but were unable to score.
Half time score Southwold 19 Stowmarket 0.

The second half was entertaining with good rugby from both teams, there was more low tackling and more passing the ball down the line, Bill had a couple of runs on the left wing but could not make the line. This author noticed a number of good tackles from Will Everson. As most of the play was in their half Will Dunning's Fullback skills were not in much demand but he did get in a couple of runs. Joe scored his second try, Adam was unable to convert. Gavin score his second, Ed was unable to convert this when the ball bounced off the bar. Adam scored his second but could not convert it. Ollie scored a try but Adam was unsuccessful once more.
Final score Southwold 39 Stowmarket 0.
