Seagulls U10's 2 - Woodbridge 1 Seagulls U10's 3 - Woodbridge 4 We were missing several key players so many of the boys played in new positions including Ben S who held his own as prop throughout both matches and even out pushed bigger opposition. Meanwhile James, Felix and Matthew took it in turns to marshal the backs from the fly-half position. For most of the first half of the first game it was deadlock with most of the play in the centre of the pitch. Neither side were able to get the ball down the line while going forward so the play inevitably went from side to side. But after continual pressure in the second half Will (who was clearly not firing on all cylinders) darted from behind the scrum to score a well deserved try. Woodbridge then retaliated within seconds of the restart with an equaliser. It was then a war of attrition. The deadlock was broken in the last minute of the game, after sustained pressure from Southwold, with a push-over try lead by and scored by Matthew. Notable for their extreme effort during the game were Jon, Jack, Felix, Gabriel and Matthew who despite several knocks never gave-up. The second match kicked off with a Woodbridge try straight from the kick-off. We retaliated immediately from the restart after a great run from Jon and an even better second phase pick-up from Jack going blind into the corner. We started to string some passes together but were still going too sideways to make any impact or ground. But our tackling was a great improvement on the Holt game with nearly everyone getting stuck-in. As well as the usual suspects, it was encouraging to see new Jack not only getting a few important tackles but also some running yardage. By half time they had scored four but thanks to yet another thundering run from Jon we were only two tries adrift. Despite a distinct hint of defeatism in the break, the boys bucked-up and came out strong. Woodbridge didn't score again. After a grueling second half Jon was bundled over for a try in the last seconds which was a both a fitting end to a great match as well as Jon and his team mates' commitment. Woodbridge 8 Southwold U8's 7 they had to do that against some strong players on the pitch and they put there heart and souls in it well done boys ![]() |
