Seagulls U7's v Beccles (09-12-07) H
Seagulls 8 - Beccles 5
Forced to reduce our starting line up, to face a team of only 5 from Beccles, meant we were able to field a strong side with plenty of room for substitutions.

Yet again, an early strike by Annebel set the scene for what was to become a convincing victory. Although Beccles had some strong runners, our pace in attack and pressure in defence forced the occasional knock-on and blatant forward pass; forced errors from which we took full advantage.

Whatever Henry Ewart had for breakfast obviously worked a treat as his fast and at times over zealous ' tag-attacks' on the ball carrier proved spectacular if not always effective. (If nothing else a taste for things to come in the years ahead perhaps!)

Our 'Usual Suspects' went about their work in the normal fashion - great runs with steps inside and change of angle. Indeed, Charles and Jake had some great runs but often only after having run backwards to find a gap - a good example of where passing to a fellow team mate would help to gain ground with far less effort and accidental offside offences (bumping into own team mates who are in front in a desperate attempt to find a way forward is not to be over encouraged). From now on we must learn to PASS the ball in attack and avoid the unnecessary ('back running') glory runs as it makes for extra hard work against well drilled opposition.

We are all delighted to see Maddie grow in confidence and to be picked in the starting 5. Christopher and Joseph had some positive spells too and credit should also go to Grace; the ever calm and now a reliable defensive player.

A solid win with confidence and ability growing but still lots to improve upon.

Seagulls U7's v Norwich (09-12-07) H
Seagulls 9 v Norwich 8
After seeing Norwich dispatch Beccles 9-1 in the second game, this surely was the match we had been waiting for. Sadly again a poor turn out from the opposition meant another 5 aside game, but we had already had some practise by now.

The Seagulls again played the stronger players first in front a growing crowd of spectators and with some quick position training from Bob and Kevin, we looked a fair match for the well drilled Norwich side.

The running was fast from both sides, scoring tries one after the other. Annabel saw a potential advantage and picked up loose ball only to then almost the entire pitch to help bring the score to 5-5 at half time.

Norwich showed excellent support play which along with solid passing and good hands meant that they more than held their own. It was all to play for in the second half and again our determination shone through as we pulled ahead by one extra try. Even Lolly was keen to take part in the closing 2 minutes and Maddie kindly stepped off the pitch so Lolly could play - fine example of our team spirit.

Even with 2 minutes added for injury time, Seagulls maintained their strength and finished victors after an excellent display of tag rugby - a fantastic finish to 2007.

Very well done to everyone who took part - as coaches and parents are all very proud of what you have achieved so far this season.

Current tally: 72 For us, 58 Against us

Seagulls U10's 4 - Norwich 1
Seagulls U10's 9 - Beccles 0
(9 December 2007)
We last met the Norwich boys when we beat them in the Prima Cup Regional Final and were expecting determined retaliation. But the Seagulls U10s' combined talents are now such a force in most areas of the game, it is difficult to imagine being beaten.

The electric back combination of Ben F, Matthew and Tom with James, Ben S and Gabriel in support. The forward power led by Joe and Jonathan and now with new recruit, Fraser. The instinctive scavenging of Jack and Felix along with the dogged tenacity of little Will. And now with a glimpse of Oscar's potential as he played his best game to date.

We dominated both games with some typically slinking runs from Ben F, great break-aways from Felix and Will, controlled lay-offs from Jack and sheer individualism from many of the try scorers. Not to mention our decisive tackling, especially from Matthew. However, most notably, there were numerous try-scoring passes - even from Jonathan. This selfless teamwork will prove to be the key to our ultimate success. I feel the boys are now beginning to realise this.

Try scorers were:
Matthew - 4
Ben F - 3
Jonathan - 2
Gabriel - 2
Tom - 1
Will - 1
