Seagulls U10's v Woodbridge - (4 November 2007)
Our first match at our temporary ground at St Felix School proved to be tougher than expected. The Woodbridge game has always been fun and good spirited, sunday was no different. What was different is they had some new players. Good new players. We played three short matches with only one try being scored in each game - fortunately in our favour. We didn't particularly do anything wrong and they didn't particularly play exceptionally - we were just very evenly matched teams on the day.

Our try scorers were Jonathan, Will and Ben F but all the usual suspects contributed to our wins. Jack was excellent in the scrums, rucks and mauls with Joe and Jonathan playing their usual critical roles alongside. Will was initially being creamed by a very good opposition scrum half at the set piece until an understanding ref enforced the RFU rules giving him a few needed seconds. Felix turned over ball and always drove forward. Matthew tackled like a demon as he has done all season. Though we had some fleeting runs in the backs which involved James, Gabriel, Ben S as well as Tom (welcome back), we didn't spread it wide as often as we should. But when we did, our off-loads were promising.

All in all it was a good reminder of how important it will be to get the basics right if we are to triumph at Welford Road in a few weeks. So we will be practicing the basics as well as some more creative play over the next two sundays.
