Seagulls U7s 8 – 2 Fakenham (A) (28-10-2007) Although the Seagulls were up against a much larger Club, this proved to be an irrelevance as our stronger players took the initiative and attacked hard from the word go. It was not long before we scored the first try and this gave all the players the energy to carry on. The ‘Usual Suspects’ of Annabel, Jake and Charles showed excellent running skills in very slippery conditions with better support in attack. Ball handling was much improved by all with very few knock-on’s – although Jake’s new try scoring habit of throwing the ball forward having crossed their line was rather odd !? (and not to be repeated please!). Wymondham also had talent and ran at us hard. Our team showed true commitment in defence, with good pressure on the opposition and some cracking tagging from Charles and others. Although ahead at half time, Wymondham fought back hard, to make it a well earned draw. Without any delay, the Seagulls were back on again to face Fakenham, and soon realised that there were plenty of opportunities to be had. Again the ‘Usual Suspects’ took control and this time dominated the game completely with a worthy win. Grace, Sam, Joseph and Maddy all got stuck in with good support play, and final try from Christopher ended the match on a thoroughly wet and muddy day – welcome to the real world of rugby! The Seagulls are now finding their form and can start to improve on more tactical skills for the future. But for now, it is great to see such excellent team spirit and a real sense of bonding amongst the players and supporters alike! |
