Southwold Under 7’s
Norwich Festival 2008
Typical festival weather saw light rain conditions for the day, although after North Walsham this was a very minor problem. Drawn in a tough group today, (is there ever a easy group?) with Wymondham, West Norfolk & North Walsham.
Southwold V Wymondham - Final Score: Southwold 6 – Wymondham 8
Charles captain for this match lost the toss giving our opponents the start with the ball. Wymondham looked strong and from the off they were straight into us with good ball and speed for the opening score. A good run from Charles, weaving around the defence, looked a certain score. But nearing the line drifted into touch. Resulting turn-over led to Wymondham’s second try. From the re-start we began to move the ball and with good support Charles broke through for our opening try. But Wymondham’s quality showed with them scoring two further tries in quick secession. Jake, from the re-start, found the space and his pace took him to the line to bring the scores 4 -2 at halftime in favour of Wymondham.
Strong attack opened the second half with Wymondham’s defence pushed back to their try line. The pressure paid off, following a number of tags and passes, Charles broke through for his second. Wymondham responded with their 5Th. Annabelle, with sore feet, came into the game and burst through with good support from Callum and Maddy to score our next three tries. But Wymondham equalled that effort and took a well earned victory.
Southwold V West Norfolk - Final Score: Southwold 5 – West Norfolk 4
Callum captained and winning the toss gave Southwold the ball to start. But an early run into touch gave West Norfolk the opening score from the turn over. Good opening pressure found Charles tagged before the line, but good vision gave a long pass to Maddy for her try. West Norfolk replied. From the restart good pressure from Southwold let to Callum breaking through bring the score at halftime all square.
A forced error soon after the restart gave Jake a chance to stretch his legs and score in the corner. Again Southwold pressure brought a deserved turn over and Charles once again popped a ball into space for Callum to score uncontested. West Norfolk replied. Charles ran strongly, but there seemed no way through the defence. Annabelle stepped up with support scoring an excellent try in the corner. West Norfolk replied, but the victory was ours.
Southwold V North Walsham - Final Score: Southwold 3 – North Walsham 7
Jake captained, but Walsham’s strength in attack and defence put three score’s on the board too our one reply, by Jake into the corner, at half time.
Second half opened with a weaving run by Jake for a solo score in the corner. Walsham replied. Charles picked up the ball from Annabelle began a run three times round the pitch, before scoring. But Walsham’s quality showed with to further scores giving a well earned victory.
A great performance from the whole team today, with some of the younger players showing that they are ready to be the stars next season.
