Southwold under 7's yet again have come out on top playing at Hadleigh today winning 10 - 7. With a minimum squad the tie proved a very equal game. Headlight started well and opened the scoring with a strong run. Nick, for Southwold, put us back level with an equally strong solo run to try in the corner. But again, Hadleigh scored their 2nd try, following some stout defending from Southwold. Annabel came into the game with two quick tryst putting Southwold into the lead for the first time in the match. But again, on the stroke on half-time Hadleigh broke through to bring the scores level, 3-3 at the whistle.
Charles opened the second half with a jinxing run, sending Hadleigh's defence in all directions, before taking a try in the corner, Hadleigh returned with their own try straight away. (no defence). A series of passing moves from the Southwold Players (Peter would be proud!!) gave Charles an easy chance for his second try. But again, our defence was asleep to Hadleigh's response. Straight from the re-start Joseph warmed his legs leaving Hadleighs players in his wake.
Nick and Charles teamed up, providing good support to each other, and even a last ditch tag taken by Hadleigh, only proved an easy walk for Nick to score. (his second today)
Hadleigh responded, breaking our defence on the forth tag. Jake came into the game and following a brilliant weaving run tried through the Hadleigh defence. Better later than never our defence came into the game and a excellent series of tags kept Hadleigh at bay, resulting in an error which Southwold were quick to make the most of. Nick picked up the loose ball and "head down" (there was no stopping him) for a score down the line to the corner. Pressure from Hadleigh from the re-start gave them their 7th try, with our final try being picked up by Charles following a series of exchanges in front of Hadleigh defence. FINAL SCORE 10 - 7 to SOUTHWOLD. A good team performance for all our players, especially those who ran inter school's cross country on Friday and football on Saturday.
The second "friendly" game was again well matched 6-6 Southwold Under 7's have shown a team commitment this season that is next to none. We have had our young players missing friends parties and other events by their own choice to make match's for their team.
