Prima Cup - Quarter finals - 1 March 2008
U10s Southwold Seagulls 0 - Stoke 2
Unfortunately not the fairytale ending that we had all hoped for "the little club on the seaside". Having well beaten our nemeses (Holt) last sunday our self confidence was high as players and parents mounted the team coach at 7.50am in Southwold. Five hours later we were raring to go standing on the Tigers' pitch at Welford Road, Leicester. We had 40 minutes to prove ourselves against a club who has 4 times the number of U10s to select from.?

From the outset their defense was awesome. Jon and Joe were been bundled over while Ben and Matt weren't being allowed to start their jinxing runs. Any attack we attempted was thwarted by a well drilled side. Inevitably once Stoke starting attacking us and despite some valiant defense we were unable to stop them. We were one try down after 5 minutes. This would normally cause an immediate "heads down" performance from the Seagulls but fortunately this was not the case on saturday and we were straight back into their half.?

At half time we were one try down and with everything still to play for. But being unable to break through their lines took it's toll as our effort didn't seem to be rewarded. Stoke took the initiative again and ran in another try. Fittingly the match ended in the Stoke half with the Seagulls still trying to break through.?

The boys were clearly disappointed but should all remember that getting to the quarter finals in the first place was an incredible achievement in itself and there was absolutely no shame in their loss against a club like Stoke.

After the game, players and parents alike watched the Tigers beat Leeds. At half time all four U10 teams did a lap of honour in front of 17,000. An experience that I am sure will remain with them for ever. After the match the boys and their siblings then set about getting as many autographs as possible - from Martin Johnson's to the upcoming new stars.?

Despite being the end of our Prima Cup run, a great day was had by all.?
