Southwold U7's 9 Lowestoft & Yarmouth 3 (17-2-08)
Sunday saw a beautiful but frosty start in Lowestoft. Southwold brought strong team of players. Annabel, Joseph, Nicolas, Callum, Grace, Maddy, Henry, Jake and Charles.
Tight defence from Southwold lean to an early turn-over and breakaway run from Nicholas and try from Jake. Southwold’s defence remained strong keeping L and Y at bay until the 6th tag passed possession over to Southwold. Then a strong run from Joseph gave Southwold try no 2. A second try for Jake followed swiftly, after pushing L and Y back.
The match continued strongly but L and Y pressured to the line resulting in their first try. Southwold returned strongly with Annabel making the line to score try no 4. L and Y responded quickly with their second try breaking through the Southwold line.
Nicholas was the scorer of try no 5 with a good solo run right on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time score 5-2.
Charles started strongly in the second half with try no 6 straight from the re-start. Again stout defending by Southwold forced an error by L and Y which Southwold made the most of with Joseph closing the loose ball and away to score try no 7. L and Y again came back quickly with their 3rd try. Try no 8 followed again some excellent defence on our goal line with the ball feeding out to Joseph to run the length of the pitch to score (catch him if you can). A great team effort by the defence lead to a turn over ball with Charles scoring try no 9 just before the full time whistle. Tagging from Southwold was excellent throughout and in particular from Maddy, Grace, Henry and Charles.
In summary a superb defence held L and Y at bay for the majority of the match and allowed Southwold to break away with strong attacking play resulting in 9 trys.
A second friendly match followed Southwold 7 Lowestoft and Yarmouth 7
Strong play from both sides led to a back and fro of possession until Southwold broke through with Annabel scoring the first try. Strong defence again followed keeping L and Y at bay with again Southwold breaking for Annabel quickly scoring her second try well supported by Charles. L and Y came straight back from the re-start with their first try. Southwold third came just before half-time and again from Annabel.
The second half opened with L and Y running a try in straight from the re-start. Southwold’s revenge came swiftly with excellent support to our front runner’s giving Callum his first try of the day. Again L and Y cam straight back at us bringing them to within 1 point. Then followed consistent pressure from L and Y for them to bring the scores level. Charles broke with a long run but being tagged just before the line and threw an excellent long pass giving Callum an easy step in for Southwold to regain the lead. But L & Y quickly equalised. Nicholas being re-introduced to the game gave a strong run to put Southwold again in the lead with a superb try. But the ref’s watch allowed sufficient time for L and Y to get a well deserved equaliser at the final whistle,
UNDER 8 RESULTS (17-2-08)
GAME 1 - Lowestoft 3 - Southwold 10
GAME 2 - Lowestoft 4 - Southwold 10
The Boys had a excellence 2 games there awareness of each other and support for each other was the best I have seen this year. The first game Sam grab the game by the horns and imposed himself on the game by scoreing 5 tries, this was backed up by some good link up play by Angus and Zac going down the sides drawing the lowestoft players in, there was very good defending by the rest of the team which shows in the results.
The second game they continue in the same fashion with trys by James, Zac, Owen, Oliver, Sam and again the support play was very good and Oliver tagged like there was no tomorrow with some very good flying tag taking and James with some good support play in all areas of the pitch
WELL DONE
U10s v Lowestoft & Yarmouth (17.02.08)
L&Y 0 - Southwold 11
(Matthew 4, Felix 2, Will 3, Joe 1, Ben S 1)
L &Y 1 - Southwold 12
(Matthew 2, Joe 4, Gabriel 1, James 2, Will 2, Jack C 1)
Southwold played 2 games against a Lowestoft & Yarmouth side who showed plenty of strength and determination but ultimately struggled to cope with our consistently strong tackling and faster running
Many of our tries resulted from long individual runs notably from Matthew, Felix and Will with Joe also notching up several tries from direct runs through the oppositions defenses.
James played well in a more central position, providing close support to others and good passing to hand, scoring 2 tries also.
A try each for Jack C and Ben S who were both solid in the mauls and Gabriel who tackled effectively, contributed to a stout defense of the Southwold line. While Tom made some good attacking moves before needing to come off through injury.
Jack D showed that he is becoming a valuable team player who is willing to get involved and Eddie contributed well from his position on the wing.
This was a good natured contest and Southwold needed to play to their usual standard to secure such a favorable scoreline.
