Pavilion Project sponsored run
Dear all,
As the new Pavilion Project nears completion it is evident that there will be a funding shortfall of several thousand pounds. This shortfall will impact on the quality and range of white goods and finish in the Bar and Kitchen areas. Some might say the most important areas!

With this in mind the Club are looking to raise monies from a sponsored run.

The run will be around a 1000m course marked on The Common at Southwold and will be centered on the club and the 1st XV pitch.

This will involve all members of the club from U7s minis up to and including the 1st XV, in fact anyone who can run/walk including your grandma if she wishes.

All coaches , volunteers and parents are invited to take part
If they can raise sponsors they can enter!

There are a number of rules.....
1. To enter each entrant will need a minimum of £30 sponorship pledged.
2. You must run in black and gold .....those in squads to wear their Kit please.
3. Prize to the biggest sponsor,

Sponsorship forms will be available at the Awards Ceremony or directly from David Vaughan via email if you wish. davidandsarah.vaughan@virgin.net

DATE: Sunday 29th june @1030am
VENUE....Southwold Common
Laps to be determined by age/class of runner etc.......

If you cant make it or prefer not to run donations will be gratefully received.

This is billed as a club day and with that in mind refreshments will be available .

Can we ask that some of you give some consideration to volunteering to assist with catering/BBQ/Drinks etc.

The planning of it is very much in its early stages but we want to give you all an early heads up so that it can be publicised at the awards ceremonies and before the close of the season.

Please pass on the word.

Thankyou in anticipation of your support.

The New Southwold Sports Pavilion

After 5 years of hard work, local sports people are celebrating the commencement of the construction of a new sports pavilion on Southwold Common. The new building will be owned by the Southwold and Reydon Recreational Development Council (the RDC), a local charity. The charity has recently received a 50 year lease for the site from the Southwold Common charity which administers the land received under the will of William Godell in 1509 on behalf of the town's inhabitants and other users of this very special open space.

The £375,000 building will be home to Southwold's cricket, football and rugby teams, although Sole Bay United FC has longer term aspirations to relocate to Reydon if money becomes available to enhance their facilities there. In addition to the Southwold Common charity, a deep debt of gratitude is owed to the financial backers of this project.

This project would never have got off the ground without the support of Southwold Town Council. Not only did they support the project through the planning permission process, but they were one of two initial backers to the tune of £50,000. The other core supporter was the Southwold Trust. They have kept open a £75,000 pledge for 5 years. This pledge includes monies previously donated to the failed "Splash" project.

Armed with these two pledges, the RDC had hoped that other money would quickly swell their coffers. Despite a couple of near misses this did not materialise. In despair, Robert Temple, President of Southwold RFC wrote to the President of the RFU. To his delight the RFU machine ably supported by the Eastern Counties Community Rugby team threw its full weight behind the project. This culminated in a Grant from the RFU on behalf of the National Sports Foundation of £204,321. A 10 year interest free loan of £38,000 from the Rugby Football Foundation was the final piece in the financial jigsaw.

Demolition started on 29th October and the building is scheduled to be completed by 30th June, 2008.

Southwold Pavilion Fund
Members of Southwold Rugby Club are working very hard at the moment, fundraising for the building of a brand new pavilion, to replace the old one. We have a target of £400.000 and so far we have raised about £18.000 with a very generous pledge from the Southwold Trust of £75,000. The new pavilion will serve Southwold rugby club, and the football and cricket clubs. The new pavilion will provide much needed space for changing and will become a real focus point for all the local clubs.

Last summer a good sum was raised as the club took part in a sponsored walk around Southwold. Members from all age groups took part, including some of the youngest members of the club who walked for hours to support their club.

This year we will be holding a number of exciting events to try and boost the funds so please take a look regularly at the events section and come along and join us.

Here are a few more ways you can help:

Membership of the Centurion Club
For a £1000 donation members can become part of the Centurion club - this entitles them to their name on a brick in the new pavilion, Lifetime membership of the 3 main clubs, a special tie and complementary tickets to various functions throughout the year.

Membership of the 200 Club
For a £10.00 registration fee and twenty-four monthly payments of £10.00 over two yrs members can be entered into a monthly draw of three cash prizes. (Total potential prize money of £1000 a month split into 50%, 30% and 20%)

Ladies that Dine
Ladies start by having five people to lunch/dinner/drinks and charge them £5. These guests in turn ask four people and charge them £5 until it spirals down to zero. The earning potential of this is obvious as long as everyone keeps the invitations going until the end.

Juniors and Minis Smarty Tube/cola can collection
The minis and juniors are working hard helping parents and grandparents with chores to earn coins to fill up their empty smarty tubes and cola cans. This money will all go towards buying bricks for the new building. Names of those who have successfully filled up their tubes and cans will be posted here very shortly.

Sponsored Slim by the Netball Girls
Southwold ladies netball team are working very hard on a sponsored slim, we wish them luck and thank them very much for their support.
