Having beaten Harwich in their previous two meetings this season Southwold were under no illusions of how hard this game would be. The Southwold pack was back to full strength and gave the Harwich scrum some major problems to think about. Southwold's ball retention improved in this game, however, when the break was made a lack of immediate support slowed the attack and gave Harwich time to reorganise. Southwold used the influence of the pack to score the only try of the game. A controlled maul from the lineout drove towards the line - No.8 Copling then pounced over the line to score. Southwold dominated territory but the lack of runners and options precluded them from further tries. In the second half Harwich replied with a penalty, but never really threatened the Southwold line. Harwich could not take full advantage of the wind to pin Southwold back due to poor kicking allowing Southwold time to relieve any pressure and counter.
