A dogged but limited Lakenham XV could not contain a Southwold side willing to move the ball through the hands and attack the wide, open spaces. The try-fest was led by Fly-Half Chris Withey who scored a hatrick of touchdowns. The Southwold forwards laid down a solid foundation in the tight and controlled the loose possession. This gave the black and gold backs ample opportunity to exploit the wide Lakenham pitch. Scavenging Southwold forwards in the shape of Gavin Starks and James Hall snaffled and harried the opposition to distraction. Lakenham's lack of an effective kicking game meant that Southwold enjoyed the lion's share of possession and territory. This resulted in a string of tries for Southwold as they cashed in Lakenham's lack of confidence. Half-backs Russell Hume and Chris Withey marshalled the game beyond Lakenham's reach. Duncan Hume and Kevin Cayley ran intelligent lines giving the back three licence to attack the spaces. Scorers; Withey (3), Currie (2), Holmes (2), Clack (2), Cayley, E McDaniel, Copling. Duncan Hume added six conversions. |
