Southwold 10 Harwich & Dovercourt 8 (13-1-2008)
Southwold's season continues apace with a narrow victory, against a determined Harwich team, in the semi-final of the Suffolk Plate. Southwold will now play Ipswich YM in the final on the 24th February; hoping to lift the Plate for the sixth time!

Harwich came to Southwold looking for revenge for league defeat and very nearly got it. If a missed penalty attempt in the final minutes had not gone awry we could have been looking at a different result.

Southwold started brightly with Duncan Hume powering over the line for an unconverted try. The home team had a lot of possession but a combination of taking the wrong option and a pressing Harwich defence resulted in some bright but disjointed play. Nathan Hunt and the backrow got through a huge amount of work, however, too many penalties were given away in the ruck and maul breakdown areas.

Harwich made Southwold pay for their lack of precesion and moving the ball left and right exposed Southwold's defence to score.

Both teams failed to dominate proceedings, however, as the game opened up in the final quarter,Elliot McDaniel spun the ball wide for Currie and Cayley to put Starks in the corner. Harwich replied with a penalty but Southwold managed to hold on for a final spot in February.
