Southwold 29 Haverhill 3 (24-11-2007)
Southwold kept in the hunt at the top of the table with a convincing away win in Haverhill.

The match was played in cold and heavy conditions, however Southwold continued to endeavor to play open rugby. The Haverhill fly-half kept the Southwold XV at bay with booming clearance kicks, aided by the wind. It was not too long, however, before Southwold registered their opening try.

The forwards drove into the Haverhill 22 sucking in defenders. Russell Hume then broke and dummied his way under the posts, his brother Duncan duly converted.

Fullback Lee Clack was disallowed what looked like a clear cut try, but it was not long before Spenser Smith slid in like a seal to finish in the corner. Haverhill pulled back a penalty before half-time. Southwold used the wind in the second half to keep Haverhill pinned in their own half.

Besides brief forays Southwold dominated position and possession. The third try again was the result of sweeping the ball wide and retaining possession. It was finished off by Smith feeding Piers Currie who dived through the covering defence to score in the corner.

James Hall popped up on the opposite wing for a further touch down. The game was rounded off with a try from phillip Anthony who cut through the openside fringe of a breakdown to complete the try scoring. Duncan converted the try to close out the match.

On Saturday Southwold play on the Common and entertain Harwich in a crucial top of the table clash.
