Southwold did not play to their full potential, however, they never looked like losing the match. The first half was a little cagey as opponents who had faced each other for a few years sized each other up. The home team acheived parity upfront and had sorted out issues with the line out and tight-five giving the backline a good platform to launch attacks. Ben Copling, James Hall and later Spenser Smith tore holes in the defence around the fringes. This tthen afforded the bacline more space to inflict their own damage out wide. The first half finished fifteen points to nil. As the second half wore on Hadleigh became more disjointed and the impetus of fresh legs led to a plethora of scores. Hadleigh replied late on with a try from their combatative fijian scrum-half - something those watching with Welsh roots had seen somewhere before. Scorers - S Smith 3, D Keeble 2, D Hume, R Hume, B Copling. D Hume 4 Cons. On Saturday the Nicholsons Groundworks sponsored Southwold 1st XV travel to Newmarket. |
